The new 1880 census index which has just been released (June 2001) by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) has led to the following corrections in the family of Charles Aldrich Thayer and Elizabeth A. Meyers:
1. Child #2 (Lewis Oscar THAYER) and child #8 "Auk" THAYER are one and the same.
2. Child #5, Frank THAYER, probably died young as he is not with the family in 1880
3. Child #6, Charles D. THAYER does not appear with the family in 1880 and probably does not belong here.
4. Child #9, Josephine THAYER was born about 1860 and not "about 1871."

Below is the way page 167 should now read:

He was called "Auk" and is one and the same as child #8 (See1567) in my book Descendants of Nathaniel Thayer, Immigrant to America 1660.

Harriet THAYER (#1555b), born 1859 in MI. Is she possibly one and the same as child, Josephine?
Josephine THAYER (#1571), born about 1860 in Van Buren County, MI. She married (_____) STEWART. Notes for Josephine: Age 20 in 1880 census. She is thought to be the mother of two daughters. (data from Fra Fritz Gonsalves as relayed by Jackie Thayer Culp in an E- mail message to me 21 Oct 1996.)

Philo Maynard THAYER (#1555), was born Jun 1861 in Van Buren County, MI. He is the son of Charles Aldrich THAYER and Elizabeth A. MYERS. Effie H. Van WINCKLE 31 Dec 1884 in Van Buren County, MI. She was born Oct 1867 in (of), Van Buren, MI. born Jun 1861. NOTES for Philo: MARR.: Michigan IGI. He was called "Maynard" in 1880. CENSUS: 1900 Bloomingdale, Van Buren, Michigan census soundex, "Maynard." CENSUS: 1920 Gobleville, Van Buren, Michigan census soundex, "age 58."

Frank THAYER (#1559), born Oct 1862 to parents who, at the time, resided in Bloomingdale, Van Buren, MI. CENSUS: 1900 Paw Paw, Van Buren, Michigan census soundex. Living with brother, Charles and family. He apparently died young.

married
Nancy A. BREWER 12 Apr 1888 at the time residing in Bloomingdale, Van Buren, MI. She was born Mar 1870 (of), Van Buren, MI. Nancy died Aug 1953 in Paw Paw, Van Buren, MI, at the age of 83. They had one child. NOTES for "Deyo:" BIRTH: Michigan

IGI. MARR.: Michigan IGI. CENSUS: 1900 Bloomingdale, Van Buren Co., Michigan census soundex. CENSUS: 1910 Van Buren Co., Michigan census soundex. CENSUS: 1920 Paw Paw, Van Buren, Michigan census soundex, "age 52." He was always called "Deyo." NOTES for Charles:

He is called Charles M. by Nancy Thayer Ross, who states that is the information on his son, Lewis' death record. I had his middle inital as "A." CENSUS: 1880 Bloomingdale, Van Buren, Michigan census, "Charles A.; age 50." FHL Film 1254607. National Archives Film T9-0607, Page 360A. After viewing this census record it became evident that child #6, Charles D. Thayer (published in my Descendants of Nathaniel Thayer, Immigrant to America 1660) was NOT a son of Charles and Elizabeth, as he did not appear with the family of Charles and Elizabeth in 1880. There was room for another child to have been born between sons Frank and Harvey Deyo, but I find no record for such a child.
