General Meeting Segment 2
Thayer Families Association General Meeting - Braintree, MA. Al Morton, June 21, 1997.
In Appreciation of Our Founders & Former Directors Who Paved The Way!
In 1985, TFA was conceived by three knowledgeable and astute gentlemen: the late Philip Standish Thayer, Sr., the late H. Hobart Holly, and the late Gen. James Burdett Thayer. The first two meetings of the Thayer Families Association were held at the Quincy Historical Society in late 1991. Mr. Holly, the Historian there for several years, arranged the space for us since we had no formal home at that time. Mr. Holly knew and worked with Waldo Chamberlain Sprague, former Historian & Genealogist with QHS until the latter’s death in 1960. At the first of those two meetings, a slate of officers was selected. William Russell Thayer, President, then of NYC, now Springfield, Massachusetts; James Burdett Thayer. Sr., Vice President, Beaverton, Oregon, Philip Standish Thayer, Sr. Secretary/Treasurer, Arlington and Hull, Massachusetts; Edwin R. Johnson, Director, Walpole, Massachusetts; Rev. Paul W. Hutchins, Director, Michigan, now Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; Katherine S. Naughton, Director, NYC; Robert Thayer Eldridge, Director. Plympton, Massachusetts; Robert Alden Knighton, Director, Randolph. Massachusetts; and Howard Saville Thayer, Director, N. Scituate. Massachusetts. The latter Director was appointed at the second QHS meeting.

Paul Winthrop Hutchins
Paul has been involved with TFA since its inception. He is currently a Director and one of the founding Directors.

Above: Former TFA members Curtis Ross Thayer and spouse Donna Rose (Hanneman) Thayer and below, Curt, Donna & Richard James Thayer at the 2006 Thayer Family Reunion in Salt Lake City, Utah. Donna passed away 7 September 2008, Richard 22 March 2009, and Curt 15 September 2018. Their obituaries are in the "Thayer Obituaries" section of this website. Curt was a long time member of TFA and served as Vice President, President & Treasurer among other positions on the Board. He and Donna hosted the 2003 Annual Business Meeting and Family Reunion of the Thayer Families Association in Frankenmuth, Michigan. They got us out of the habit of thinking all TFA meetings had to be in Braintree and we had 122 attendees! All are deeply missed and our thoughts & prayers are with the family members in their sorrow. R.I.P.
